Diamorphine

Diamorphine-assisted treatment – an effective alternative for severe opioid dependence.

Who this treatment is for.

For most people with opioid dependence, treatment with methadone, levomethadone, buprenorphine, or sustained-release morphine is an effective and established therapy.

However, there are patients who, despite intensive treatment efforts, continue to suffer from intense cravings, regularly consume illegal substances, or repeatedly drop out of treatment. For these individuals, diamorphine-assisted substitution can be a meaningful treatment option.

Embedded in a comprehensive medical and psychosocial treatment concept, diamorphine-assisted treatment can help reduce concurrent drug use, promote health stability, and sustainably improve quality of life.

What is diamorphine?

Diamorphine (pharmaceutical heroin) is a high-purity medication produced under the strictest quality standards. Unlike street heroin, it contains no unknown cutting agents or impurities and is administered in a controlled medical environment.

“The goal of the treatment is not to ‘supply drugs,’ but to stabilize individuals suffering from illness who have not been able to benefit sufficiently from previous therapy options.”

What the treatment can achieve

Numerous studies have shown that diamorphine treatment for suitable patients leads to a significant reduction in illegal drug use, better physical and mental health, and higher treatment retention. Many patients also report a noticeable decrease in cravings, inner tension, and the pressure to procure drugs. This often creates the necessary conditions for stabilizing their life situation, finding employment, or restoring social relationships for the first time.

How the treatment works

Under medical supervision

Treatment takes place in our specially equipped diamorphine clinic under medical supervision. Patients administer the individually dosed medication themselves under hygienic conditions and with medical support.

Individually dosed

Depending on individual needs, the medication can be administered once, twice, or three times daily.

Supplementary substitution

To prevent withdrawal symptoms outside of dispensing hours, diamorphine is often combined with supplementary oral substitution.

Requirements for admission

Since 2025, the legal access requirements have been simplified, allowing more affected individuals to benefit from this therapy.

Our goal is not just to reduce consumption, but to achieve a lasting improvement in health, quality of life, and social participation.
